We are just now winding down from our successful staging of our inaugural Global Green Indigenous Film Festival (GGIFF) that took place from April 18 to April 20 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The National Tribal Environmental Council (NTEC) wants to thank you for your commitment to the preservation and protection of Mother Earth through your support of this international environmental film festival. Without your support, this event would not have been successful and would not have taken place.
So many things happened that brought excitement and success to the film festival. The festival was headquartered at the Hotel Santa Fe, where the Opening night reception, the Youth photo exhibit, and film awards ceremony were held. The New Mexico Film Museum Theater, the Center for Contemporary Arts, and the Santa Fe Film Center at the Cinema Café hosted 40 films from nine countries that focused on the environmental concerns and issues facing indigenous peoples. Panel discussions on renewable energy, green filmmaking on New Mexico Tribal lands, and the use of indigenous languages in film were offered free to the public. A day-long Youth film workshop was presented by NTEC and hosted by the Institute of American Indian Arts. Volunteers from all walks of life and professions stepped up to make the event a success.
GGIFF received the support and endorsement of other sponsors, partners, and affliliates from UNESCO, an agency of the United Nations, to the City of Santa Fe, the Indian Nations from Colorado, California, Oklahoma, Washington, and New Mexico, to institutions representing the film industry and private businesses and individuals.
Again we reiterate that this film festival would not have been successful without your support and generosity. On behalf of NTEC, the GGIFF Film Festival Team consisting of Veronica Tiller, Mary Velarde, Stephanine Poston, Tony Estrada, and Jeremiah Bitsui, we respectfully thank you for your commitment to making a huge and world-wide difference in the environmental preservation and protection of Mother Earth.
